“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” 21 July 2009, theater. We enjoyed this 6th installment in the series, although I was more underwhelmed than Bronwen. She didn’t read the book. The settings are all fine, the quiditch is exceptional, the acting is adequate (although Dumbledore is too sweet in this one, he’s actually quite distant, curt, and even cold and obsessed with his epic quest to undo Voldemort in the book). All the pros are their usual fine selves, especially Alan Rickman as Severus Snape. Still…I found the movie a bit too unemotional in its impact. The acting by the principal kids (Radcliffe, Grint, and Watson) just seems a little tired, and even one of the series most emotional moments seemed to fall flat on the audience, most of whom had read the whole series and knew what’s coming. Oh well, I enjoyed it nonetheless
