Six-part, Jane Campion mini-series set in and around Queenstown, New Zealand. This is a look at the darker side of New Zealand culture, one of meth and wild, gun-toting, homicidal, compound-dwelling families coexisting with civil society It paints a picture of New Zealand that might be Oklahoma or West Virginia. A 12-year old girl turns up pregnant and family and personal history blend as a recently returned home-town-young woman detective takes on the case. The girl, Tui, disappears and Robin sets out to both locate her and peel back the layers of the rotten onions that are the town, the families involved, and the police force. Along the way, she and we encounter a feminist cult led by a crazy Yank (Holly Hunter), Robin’s former boyfriend-cum-brother to Tui, and a host other local worthies and wackos. Think “Winter’s Bone” meets “Lone Star” on the South Island. We’re going to Queenstown in three weeks. Sooooooooooo…Gorgeous scenery if not the advertisement for NZ the film board sponsors probably wanted
