Film Reviews from the Viewing of Marc Stern
1995-The Present
I am not a critic in that I am not paid to review films. I sometimes do movie reviews on my radio show, “Radio With a View,” on wmbr in Cambridge, MA (it’s on Sunday mornigns 10-11 a.m.), but my day job has me a history professor. Given that, I don’t even get to see movies for free in the theaters. For that reason I try to see films I think I will like and often see things on DVD. This is not, therefore, a random selection of the stuff that’s out there. I pick some real losers of course (don’t we all). But what I’m trying to say is I like lots of what I see. I hope you enjoy this list. I’ve been keeping it since we got a VCR in 1995 when our daughter arrived and we never got out of the house and began to keep the list so that I wouldn’t rent the same films again, unintentionally, because they looked cool and I was exhausted. I am working backward from the present on entering these films into the blog, a month or two of viewing at a time. Given that there are almost two thousand films, it’s going to take a while. I often watch these with my wife Bronwen (B3) and, when she can stand being with us, my daughter Bronwen (b4), and yes, the two of them having the same name and no nicknames is sometimes very confusing.
