Creed

August, 2016, DVD, computer.  Who would have thunk it? Certainly not me I didn’t expect to enjoy this well-written, well-acted, and sentimental return of a series I thought long past its expiration date The ‘lost’ son of Apollo Creed goes to Philadelphia to bring Rocky out of retirement and to become the young man’s trainer Stallone and Michael B Jordon shine for the first three-quarters of this film as an older and wiser Rocky Balboa grudgingly becomes the young fighter’s mentor It was moving and worked for me until the perfunctory over the top violence of the big fight Jordan (Fruitvale Station) is stellar once again, and the script and direction of Ryan Coogler really work A happy summer surprise for me
