Ant-Man and the Wasp

Posted on July 15, 2018August 20, 2018 by Village Vidiot

“Ant-Man and the Wasp,” July 15, 2018, theater.  Bronwen usually hates movies like this and she only went to it with me in the theater as a ‘favor.’  Imagine my surprise when we both really enjoyed this very well-written, witty, well-made, sometimes visually stunning, curious sci-fi Marvel Comic treat.  Well-acted by all, Paul Rudd reprises his role as Scott Lang, Ant-Man, enduring the last few days of house arrest and being the best ‘dad’ he can to his precocious daughter Maggie without leaving the house.  He’s called to support Dr. Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly who I swear must be Sandra Bullock’s sister the resemblance is so strong) as they struggle to save their wife/mother (Michelle Pfieffer) who disappeared into the quantum vortex years ago.  Lang’s work with fellow X-con security company owner Luis (Michael Peña—who gets better with each part he takes) provides lots of laughs, while conflict with the Ghost (Hannah John-Kammen) is anything but funny.  Lawrence Fishburne’s Dr. Bill Foster provides a balance to Douglas’s egotistical Pym.  All right, so I still don’t get why Hope is into Scott, and Rudd’s everyman superhero is something less than engaging, but it’s all really good and often laugh-out-loud fun.  Nothing too deep, although I’m not sure I understand the post-credit teaser.
