[Warning, spoilers included]. They’re back. I mean the nasty aliens are back to try to destroy the world again. That’s too bad, because they’ve brought with them a really bad movie. Its 20 years after the first invasion, the world’s at peace and more technologically sophisticated thanks to the technology reverse engineered from the earlier alien invasion. But along come the big, bad interplanetary despoilers and, once again, the children of the American heroes (and those still alive from the first edition who didn’t run away from this script) have to save our asses with the involvement of one Chinese heroine and an anti-alien African warloard. What, no child of Putin?. Will Smith chose not to do this turkey for whatever reason, but probably not good taste. Anyway, the dialogue is boring and clunky, the plotline is lame, and I fear I’ve become less scared of these monsters in the face of the horror of Trump’s cabinet. Jeff Goldblum, now a global hero, reprises his role as super-scientist but he has zero edge and charm and no buddy to play off even if he wanted to. Brent Spinner ends the film with one of the worst lines I’ve experienced in bad sci-fi. Ah, why waste more time on this one. Avoid it
