A good Czech film about skirt-chasing bachelor who makes a marriage of convenience with a Russian woman as the collapse is happening in Eastern Europe. She then splits on him and leaves him with her 5-year old son. Works on a variety of levels. He’s a musician who can’t have serious relationships, who becomes an adult as his country throws out the Russians. Russians cared for by their clients, the Czechs. Funny in parts. Very serious and loving about adults and children. Happy ending is ok, if a bit too predictable. Works on a variety of levels. Well worth seeing. B+ and I both really liked it. Subtitles
