Fun Japanese girl-band movie. When a high school band’s guitarist gets hurt, the three girls in the band need a fourth, a lead singer. They select (at random) a Korean exchange student with limited Japanese. This is a wonderful film about teen life in Japan. There are no parents (well, mom makes a birthday cake for one girl), only kids and teachers. It’s a little like “Peanuts”. Good acting, although all the girls are too pretty (they’re models, except for the bass player, who’s a musician). Excellent and very subtle stuff about Japanese-Korean relations. The concert is at the school fair. The Korean-Japanese Cultural group has a room at the fair. Not one Japanese person goes to the room. Subtle and interesting. Well acted. Great for kids. This was one of the top ten films on my friends’ Gene and Scott’s movie lists. See this one
