Mother

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

I’d wanted to see this Korean thriller from Jooh-ho Bong for quite a while and it did not disappoint. Very well written and acted, it looks at a single mother (wonderfully played by Hye-ja Kim) who supports herself selling medicinal roots and herbs, whose son, a slow and rather irascible young man, is accused of murder. She knows he can’t be guilty and sets out to prove his innocence. It’s a wonderful look at Korean society, the justice system, and the ‘stresses’ of life lived under pressure. Well done by all. Tense and thoughtful with moments of humor. See the excellent features about the making of the film which includes marvelous interviews with the director/auteur and the cast See this one
