Anita Hill’s story and the battle over Clarence Thomas’s nomination are brought to light in this 2013 documentary by Frieda Mock. It examines the impact of Hill’s allegations of sexual harassment and their long-term effect on her and the issue more broadly. I was disappointed that I didn’t learn very much new from the film, but I see it as an effective. political memory piece for those who didn’t live through it. It’s a good reminder that politics was almost entirely male and white in the not-distant-past in America, that one doesn’t always win the struggle because you are right, that issues of gender power were and are still real, that it’s important to stand for what you believe and, as a poster in her office says, “speak truth to power”
