Give Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Chaz Palmentierri, Gary Shandling, Anna Paquin, and Meg Ryan a tight David Rabe script and watch them run. Paquin alone is too young and just not mature/sexual enough to pull it off, but it is a really interesting dark/humorous piece about LA movie coke-heads and their utter inability to sustain relationships. Dark, painful, this play–turned-film is too wordy as realist art, but sill packs lots of punch. Penn is wonderful to watch as the blowfreak who really wants to be loved as much as he can love, but he really just doesn’t have a clue about women, sex, love. Sad but also funny. See this one!
