Star Trek: Into Darkness

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

I enjoyed the film that really is a prequel, setting up Ricardo Montalban’s magic pecs, Corinthian leather, and Herman Melville fetish. It ‘explains’ and reframes the arrival of Kahn and his merry band of ubermenchen. Yes, there are things that don’t work:. why does one shot lay Kahn out like a carp at one moment but half-a-dozen barely seem to faze him at another?. Still, action packed and very loud fun. Bronwen, who slept through a lot of it, asked “why are they always yelling at one another?”. She’s the only person I know who had no (zero) experience with the original series or early films. I had to explain the well-known “Shatner Effect”. Still, a good film that continues the elevation of the the supporting officers to more than Kirk and Spock’s spear carriers. I get his interest I Carol Marcus. I enjoyed it and especially appreciate the explicit tension between Federation as empire and Federation as peaceful mission
