Gone Girl

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

I was looking forward to seeing this film with Ben Affleck as Nick and Rosamund Pike as Amy because of the cast and because, well, it made such a big splash as a novel. Everyone (except me) was reading it. I wait years and then usually find out yes, everyone was right (eg, The World According to Garp, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbitt, etc). I won’t be reading this one. It’s a toxic stew indeed as Amy disappears on their 5th anniversary and Nick’s lies quickly fall apart. Did he kill her, well, we find out rather quickly. With strong support from Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris and Carrie Coon, this is an unpleasant if well-made look at deceit and really creepy, unpleasant people. B says the book is even creepier. What is the allure here?. .
