The Monuments Men

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

I was really looking forward to seeing this film. It has a wonderful cast including George Clooney, Kate Blanchet, Bill Murray, Matt Daman, John Goodman, Bob Baliban, Jean Dujardin, and Hugh Bonneville, and was produced , written, and directed by Clooney who did such wonderful work in “Good Night and Good Luck,” and it focused on the amazing story of a group of art geeks who rescued tens of thousands of pieces of priceless art that the Nazi’s pilfered from Europe. What could go wrong?. Well, one hell of a lot. This is, I’m sorry to say, a flat, poorly acted (Ms Blanchet excepted, and yes I have a crush on her), poorly directed, poorly written piece of work that emulates the worst of 1960s war movies, including the music. It feels false at every turn, while oozing sincerity and platitudes. This one hurt
