“Of Gods and Men,” August 17, 2011 (2010), DVD. This is another slow, or perhaps stately, film. It looks at the 8 French Trappist monks in Algeria who became pawns in the games played by the Islamists who waged war on the Algerian government. Much of the film is the simple presentation of the work done by these men: the farming, prayer, cooking, honey making, tending the sick of the villages near their monetary, etc. It shows their attempt at resolving conflict through consensus. It is a film with many silences. The outcome is, of course, never in doubt A good one. See this film.
