The Town

Posted on March 12, 2010September 15, 2020 by Village Vidiot

“The Town,” 12 March 2011 (2010), DVD.   Very solid 2010 Ben Affleck directed/starring film about bank and armored car robberies in Charlestown, MA. Atmospheric. Excellent work from Jeremy Renner as the borderline psycho member of Affleck’s crew and the one who forces him to do the ‘one last job’ that’s always the problem. In this case, a very big job. Nice work from Peter Postlethwaite in his last role as the evil Irish crime boss, unconvincing work from Chris Cooper as Affleck’s imprisoned dad. I really enjoy watching another of the crew, played by Slaine (who was also in “Gone, Baby, Gone”); he’s Boston to the core and really lends a note of reality to the piece. A solid film. Affleck is still learning how to deal with the emotional parts of these films, the male/female parts. He’s got the action stuff down cold. A good, if not great, film. Renner was nominated for an Oscar
