A Prophet

Posted on December 11, 2010August 16, 2020 by Village Vidiot

“A Prophet,” 11 December 2010 (2009), DVD.  Violent, thoughtful, disturbing, long (155 min), well-made and challenging look at a 19-yo, illiterate Franco-Arab who enters prison in France on a 6-yr bit and finds himself played, used, and abused by Corsican and Muslim criminals alike. He makes his own way in this mess, always the “Dirty Arab” to the Corsicans he serves in and out on leave and never one of the Muslim homies in the joint. He learns to read and grows. And what does he grow into as one caste replaces another?. It’s about France and identity with the prison serving as metaphor. See this movie. Brilliant
