Beasts of the Southern Wild

Posted on August 17, 2012August 13, 2020 by Village Vidiot

“Beasts of the Southern Wild,” August 17, 2012.    We both liked this interesting film about the off-the-grid, bayou-dwelling underclass living in the fens off the coast of LA. A young girl raised by her hard-drinking father who is ill. Hurricanes, imaginary animals and images of the melting polar icecaps link it all together. Very well acted by some pros, some amateurs. Fantasy and reality blend. Reminds me of everything I read about English fen-dwellers eventually expelled when the Brits drained the fens in the 17th century. Ferrell gypsies and wild folks who pride themselves on being beasts. See this one.
