Broadchurch

“Broadchurch,” January 2015 (2013), DVD.  We really enjoyed this 8-episode Brit murder mystery featuring David Tennant (Dr Who) as DI Alec Hardy and Olivia Coleman as DDI Ellie Miller. The murder of an 11-yo boy in an idyllic Dorset town sets off a series of events exposing both the complex and fractured relationships in families and the community as a whole. The bulk of this show explores character and relationships and is both affecting and well-done. The cast did not know who-done-it until the very end of filming. Very well written except for its venture into psychics and overplayed faith in episode 7. All the acting is first rate and the show works like music by returning to themes to drive them home. This was very much worth the watching and could be a good very cold weather weekend binge at about 7 hours. . Tennant is wonderful. He’s playing the same role in the American version cloned (using the same script!) off this one.
