The Way

“The Way, Way Back,” March 3, 2014, (2013) DVD.  I’m not entirely sure why this movie got the absolute rave reviews it did from most critics Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the film; but it is a bit less than I hope for from a really good film The movie chronicles the summer vacation of Duncan, a 14-year-old boy, at the beach with his divorced mom (Toni Collette) and her sleazy, control freak boyfriend (Steve Carell) It’s a nice coming-of-age piece with lots of fun stuff at a water park It made me feel guilty that we never took Bronwen to enough water parks Some nice work by Maya Rudolph as the assistant manager of the water park I’m developing a real fondness for Allison Janney’s performances This one as a single mom neighbor on the beach with the wild streak and a good heart is especially appealing Give this film a whirl, even though it doesn’t come up to the plaudits showered upon it by most critics.
