June 16, 2015 (2014), airplane on way to United States. I’d hoped for more but still liked watching Bill Murray in this small film (a 12 inch screen?) about a damaged Viet Nam vet who becomes a friend/caretaker/role model (and what a model) to Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher), the son of a frazzled, divorcing single mom, Melissa McCarthy, the everywoman of today’s film industry. A. heart of, well, bronze if not gold, he teaches survival skills to the young lad who repays him with canonization for service above and beyond the call of duty. Touching, sentimental and fun to watch with nice work by Naomi Watts as a pregnant Russian stripper and Chris O’Dowd as the priest teaching the young and Jewish Oliver’s parochial school class. Good air fare.
