Dogma

Yucky, confused comedy about religion with a fine cast, all of whom spout scads of platitudes about the Catholic Church, God, religion, and lots of other stuff. By the guy who did “Clerks” and “Chasing Amy”. The first had the wild craziness of the slacker, the second was cool and weird but then became sentimental. This one is pompous, stupid, and more than a little banal. Supposedly funny (and there are a few chuckles in the setups—Chris Rock as the 13th Apostle falling from the sky, petulant angels, etc) but otherwise it’s badly done. Oh that I’d rented “Traffic” or even “The Perfect Storm” instead, because B actually tried to stay up and watched the film. I don’t blame her for falling asleep during this one.
