American Splendor

Posted on February 15, 2004July 15, 2020 by Village Vidiot

“American Splendor,” February 15, 2004 (2003), video.  We liked this interesting directorial conceit about Harvey Pekar, the Cleveland writer who chronicles his own life in the comic books he doesn’t draw. Paul Giamatti and Hope Davis are really great as Pekar and his wife Joyce, and they appear as themselves as well, as do many of his friends. The comic books also appear. The weird part of it is that at times, I wished they’d have done more story telling and less with Pekar himself. Odd?. Yes. Still, it was fun to watch and an interesting piece of Americana. Check it out
