Rabbit Proof Fence

“Rabbit-Proof Fence,” 6 September 2004, DVD.     “Rabbit Proof Fence,” 6 September 2004 (2002), DVD.     This is a very fine and serious Australian film about the shameful period from 1930-1970 where the Australian government stole the mixed race children of aboriginal women and ‘reeducated’ them to civilize them and eventually encourage their deracination. It chronicles the journey of three young girls as they attempt to run away and return to their bands. An intense and a bit of a scary movie for the little one, as it had a very serious theme and dealt with children really being ripped from their families by the government. This was something we were worried about in our early years as parents.
