“The Terminal,” 17 July 2006 (2004), DVD. Minor Spielberg. Tom Hanks stars as a visitor from Krachovia, some Eastern European country, who is stuck in diplomatic limbo when he arrives in NYC and can’t get out of the terminal because the US doesn’t accept his papers. He also can’t return home. Over time he becomes a beloved construction worker due to his diverse and remarkable set of talents, a friend to all, and a figure of immense meaning in the terminal. Tom Hanks as the Magic Slav version of the Magic Negro in “The Green Mile,” especially since the terminal is his prison. His nemesis is, of course, the head of security/immigration, played by Stanley Tucci. In all, very minor, although it was fun to watch in moments and harkened back to ‘screwball’ comedies of errors of the past.
