2046

“2046,”  December 15 2006 (2004), DVD.  See this brilliant Wong Kar Wai meditation on memory. The followup to the interesting “In the Mood for Love,” it chronicles the post affair life of its lead, Tony Leung, in1960s Hong Kong. The cultural revolution plays out in riots in the city while he goes to night clubs and has affairs. This is an amazing movie. Wong works like Mike Leigh with storyboards alone yet he manages to extract magical performances from his leads, including Gong Li, while working without either a script or a big budget. See this one.
