“Gloomy Sunday,” [1999], 19 February 2012, DVD.  Set in Budapest before, during, and long after WWII, this interesting German/Hungarian film chronicles the story of a loving meange a tois and the horror of the Holocaust. Lazlo runs a wonderful restaurant with Ilona when in comes Andras, a pianist of talent, who composes a song “Gloomy Monday,” that leads those inclined to end their lives. These are the tois. A German named Hans falls for. Ilona and is saved by Lazlo when, rejected, he tries to end it all. All this sets up the characters whose lives become further entangled during the war.  A very interesting, sexy, sad film that also speaks to the question of suicide and responsibility.  Love lasts a long time and death is forever. See this film.
