American Hustle

March 1, 2014, (2013) theater. We really enjoyed this look into America’s Abscam scandal. Excellent acting from everyone: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, Louis CK, with a wonderful uncredited bit from Robert DeNiro. They got the style (blech!), the music, and the faux glamour right in this story of love, the American Dream, deindustrialization, crime, and base and shabby corruption among mid-level pols, con artists and the FBI. It’s all as creepy as it seemed at the time. As the cinema owner described it to me, the film is “sneaky smart”. You’ve got to love the hair and the leads amaze as absolute chameleons who are really enjoying themselves.
