Grand Budapest Hotel

Posted on August 13, 2014July 17, 2020 by Village Vidiot

“Grand Budapest Hotel,” August 13, 2014  DVD.    We both really enjoyed this Wes Anderson confection about M Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) concierge of the hotel and Zero Mustafa (Tony Revolori/F Murray Abraham) a refugee who becomes the new lobby boy and his devoted friend and companion. Very funny story of a struggle over a family fortune, art theft, love, baking (check the short on how to make one of the pastries), the rise of fascism, the death of the old order, and the continuing decline of civilization. Excellent performances, including very small cameos, by a host of. A-list performers who clearly love to work with Anderson. Among them are Jude Law, Tilda Swinton, Tom Wilkinson, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, Edward Norton, and Willem Dafoe. All love playing in “Wesland” as Goldblum says in an attached short.
