Hugh Grant stars in this good and very interesting look at a man without a life. He doesn’t want one. He lives off his deceased father’s income from a song written decades before. He goes from woman to woman. Then he discovers single women with kids and realizes they are pastures of plenty. He goes after them but his plans go awry when the child of one targets him for her mom and learns he is lying about his own (fictional) kid. He grows into meaning and caring through this connection, although the mother is a total nutcase. There is another woman who comes to matter. Grant is fine in this role and the script is good although Grant’s self-absorbed narcissism is intensely embarrassing to watch
