An all Spanish film weekend

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

“The Devil’s Backbone” 8 May 2010, DVD. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro (Mexican, “Pan’s Labyrinth”) and produced by the Almodovar brothers, this political Spanish ghost story is set in the final days of the Spanish Civil War. A boy’s school for the orphans of the war (Republican only) is haunted by the spirit of one of the number. This is an intelligent and moving story, eerie but not shocking (well, too shocking). It’s an intelligent and powerful story of greed, cruelty, love, honor, bravery and commitment. See this one
