Get Smart

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

B4 and I watched this Steve Correll/Anne Hathaway (Smart/99) vehicle reframing the silly TV show of the 1960s. that was the logical extreme of the Bond/Secret Agent/I Spy/Man from UNCLE cycle. Correll’s fun, but too old by far for Hathaway. The Rock plays the superagent all aspire to be and bed. It’s not as bad as some said, but I missed the silly zaniness of the simple days when the cone of silence descended from the ceiling!. I also missed Don Adams’ take on MS as an idiot agent protected by 99 and Barbara Feldon’s loving doe-eyes. Finally, Alan Arkin is just too angry to be “The Chief”. The mistake here was playing this as a real spy story of sorts. Oh well.
