I liked this dark look at the death. of George Reeves (good work from Ben Affleck although he never ages like Reeves did). What, you don’t remember George Reeves?. Before there was Christopher Reeves there was George Reeves, the real Superman. This film looks at the last 10 years of his life and his death as he struggled to craft a career as a star. It posits a fictive detective, played by Adrian Brody, who tries to figure out what ‘really’ happened to Reeves. Was he murdered?. By his lover, wonderfully played by Diane Lane?. He was, after all, a kept man. His unhappy fiancé?. His lover’s husband (Bob Hoskins) an enforcer type studio exec in the rough and tumble world of 1950s Hollywood where TV was both the enemy and an embarrassment to ‘real’ actors and star wannabes like Reeves, whose first part was in “Gone With the Wind”. It’s a film about always trying to grab the brass ring rather than accepting who you are. .
