Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work

Posted on August 17, 2018 by Village Vidiot

I liked this 2010 documentary that follows Rivers, who died just a few weeks ago, through her many gigs, her obsessive need to be seen as being on top, her relationship with her daughter Melissa, the end of her relationship with her manager of 35 years,. and her failed one woman stage show. But she comes out on top. She is not an easy person to deal with. She is also amazingly hard working and organized as a performer. The film recounts her coming to stardom, her triumphs and falling out with Carson, and her views on other female comics, and especially Kathy Griffen. This is very funny in parts, interesting in others. Don’t watch it for deep thoughts. They’re not there, and that’s fine
