“Glass Onion,” January 13, 2023 (2022), Netflix. I was not a fan of “Knives Out,” but I was willing to see another ‘episode’ in this franchise from Rian Johnson. I was, again, underwhelmed after an initially funny setup to the story. Cameo’s by Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, Jackie Hoffman, Stephen Sondheim, Natasha Lyonne, and Kareem Abdul-Jabar gave this some real zing, and a later entry by Serena Williams was a much needed boost. Alas, the film itself was less dynamic even though the principals tried their hardest. Daniel Craig is, again, Benoit Blanc, the world’s greatest detective, here ‘called’ to the island Piseshite, owned by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, pardon me, Miles Bron (Edward Norton) to be part of a murder mystery with members of his crew, including Kate Hudson—with assistant Jessica Henwick, David Bautista – with girlfriend Madeline Cline, Kathryn Hahn, and Leslie Odom, Jr. They’re each underwritten and dependent on Bron, who they mostly loath. Bron’s former partner, who he squeezed out of the corporation, Janelle Monae surprises all by attending. It’s too much to go through the plot, but aside from some beautiful sets and some silly walkons/walk throughs, it’s not worth your time.
